Functional Massage Therapy was established in 2011 by Leslie Clisby, RMT, in beautiful downtown Courtenay. It’s location on 6th Street across from the library, make it convenient and accessible. Appointments are available Mondays through Thursdays between the hours of 11am and 6pm. Leslie strives to care for the environment and the community that raised her, on the unceded territory of the K’omoks first nation.
Type of massage therapy offered: This truly depends on the individual. Some wish to focus on relaxation, others may be recovering from an injury or preparing for an upcoming sport event. Others may be managing a chronic illness or suffer from a life long disease. Leslie Clisby is skilled in sports massage, deep tissue, myofascial, visceral manipulation, joint manipulation, relaxation techniques, trigger point therapy, craniosacral to name a few different styles of massage therapy offered at Functional Massage Therapy.
Leslie Clisby became a Registered Massage Therapist in 2005, after graduating from the three year diploma program at the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy in Vernon, BC. This intense training added to the foundation of relaxation massage that Leslie Clisby was already delivering to the fine hotels and film sets of the Lower Mainland since 1999. Post graduate training in the field of sport medicine and visceral manipulation have added to the depth of treatment that can be found at Functional Massage Therapy. She spent three years travelling with a number of Rugby Canada teams as well as events such as: BC Summer Games, Victoria and Vancouver International Marathons, Canadian Interuniversity Soccer Finals, Slam City Jam and World Cup skateboarding finals. Leslie spent a summer working with a strengthening and conditioning training camp for NHL, WHL, AHL hockey athletes in North Vancouver to supplement the work she was doing with a Junior A hockey team. Besides hockey and rugby, Leslie also takes care of cyclists, triathletes, snowboarders, skiers, skateboarders, dancers, gymnasts, golfers, artists, musicians as well as the general public looking to increase their level of fitness or maintain what they have.
Leslie Clisby served on the board of directors for SportMedBC from 2008-2012, the Canadian Sport Massage Therapists Association provincial board from 2005-2010 as well as Chaired the Sport Professional Practice Group for the Massage Therapists Association of BC from 2008-2011. She currently enjoys working with her patients in her clinic in downtown Courtenay and enjoying all that nature has to offer!
